Rangers Add Goaltender

Don't get too excited by the headline. Similar to the three free agents that the Rangers did not sign by the August 15th deadline (http://blue-review.blogspot.com/2007/08/news-tidbit.html), the Los Angeles Kings did not sign 24 year old goalie propect Matt Zaba either. Today the Rangers took one of those three remaining professional contracts (out of 50) and signed Zaba to one year deal to increase their goaltending depth. There is a good story here (http://www.gazette.com/sports/zaba_26211___article.html/rangers_hockey.html) that talks about how he is expected to compete for a job with the Hartford Wolfpack or the Charlette Checkers. There is also a profile about him at hockeysfuture (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospect/matt_zaba), but I can't say it gets you too excited about this kid.

Folks, once again I find it very interesting that the Rangers organization is loading up on young goaltenders (drafting Lafleur and now signing Zaba). The Montoya trade watch is still on...
