Interesting Development

Yesterday, the Pheonix Coyotes signed 26 year old goaltender Alex Auld. You might remember Auld from my 8/9 article (http://blue-review.blogspot.com/2007/08/available-backup-goalies.html) where he was listed as one of the possible backup goalies available in the free agent market. On the surface, this might appear as a meaningless signing to some, but this might end up having an effect on the Rangers if my theory in yesterday's article (http://blue-review.blogspot.com/2007/08/my-own-theory.html) had any truth to it. The signing of Auld gives the Yotes a young goaltender that might have a promising future in their organization, based on Auld's fairly impressive performance in 05-06 as Vancouver's starting goalie. At the very most, this could have a profound negative effect on the Yote's possible interest in Montoya. And at the very least, this takes one less goaltender off the market to back up King Henrik. Either way, I am standing firmly on the belief that Sather has to be shopping Montoya and his monster rookie bonus at a time when his value is as good as its going to get.
