Cherepanov and Anisimov Injured

Presently, there is a tournament going on called the "Super Series" in which NHL prospects from Canada and Russia are facing off. Unfortunately, there have been several injuries to Russian players during the tournament.

Alexei Cherepanov was ousted from the series after receiving and elbow in the head from Brandon Sutter. He was not doing well after the game and may have a serious concussion.

Artem Anisimov has left the game today with a knee injury after what was described as the dreaded "knee-on-knee" hit. Considering that Anisimov was leaving for America after the series to get ready for Rangers training camp, a serious knee injury would be a big disappointment for Artem and the Rangers organization. I'll keep you posted.

Are these contests anything more than a chest-thumping exercise? Why would the Rangers allow these guys to participate?

The organization would probably want them to participate in the tournament for the experience. The main problem is that the two Rangers prospects are also two of the best players on the Russian team, so they are going to be targeted.

Yeah, but there's still too much chances of injury in a very competitive environment. Oh well... live and learn, I guess.
